Update #2
This update adds radiation and weather. I felt both of these were important to the soul of the game, and they are the last main mechanics I want to add. I’m done adding new mechanics. I’m done adding new mechanics. I’m done.
I want to add a new forest Biome, perhaps it will be an endgame alternative to the mall. I also might add a graveyard biome.
I do want there to be interesting decisions to be made, as of right now there is very little macro-character building strategy that is found in other games like DCSS. Perhaps a greater emphasis on book-aquired perks. Some of these are quite interesting and impactful, such as the werewolf that buffs you during the night.
But it’s hard to come up with balanced, permanent perks that change the way you play the game, and books need to be spawned with the right rarity.
Added weather: These effects will randomly occur every 1-2 full days, and last the full day or night.
- Acid Rain - Deals .5 damage every turn while you’re outdoors.
- Rain - Deals .25 damage while outdoors
- Solar Flare - Every 12-24 turns a solar blast strikes all outdoor tiles revealing them and inflicting 1 radiation if you’re not indoors.
Added 5 new classes: Punk, Agent, Druid, Hiker, Experiment
- Child now starts with the ‘Sugar Rush’ perk. This grants them 1 instant speed turn every time they consume a ‘candy’.
- Hobo starts with ‘Scavenger’. Whenever they slay an undead or mutant enemy, they have a %10 chance to scavenge a food or potion item.
- Veteran starts with ‘Critical Shot’. Their first shot in a fully loaded magazine deals 2 extra damage.
- Punk starts with ‘Bloodrush’. They gain an instant speed action every time they slay a unit. They start with a switchblade, cigarettes, and quick dust.
- Agent starts with a raygun. It’s a gun that doesn’t use bullets, instead it has 3 charges and recharges over time. They were going to have more but I didn’t finish it in time.
- Druid starts with ‘Wand Mastery’ Every time they use a wand they restore 5 health. They start with a blink wand, and 2 herbal cigars.
- Hiker starts with ‘Camper’. They restore .5 health every turn they wait. They start with a backpack, jerky, and an exclusive granola item that grants a lot of food.
- Experiment starts with ‘Unstable Genome’. When mutating they choose from 4 mutations instead of 2. They start with radon dew.
Added Radiation: After you get 10 radiation you choose from 2 mutations from the mutation pool. Most of them are bad but some are good.
Radiation is gained from solar flares, 2 new enemies, and certain items.
Mutations:
- Malformed Heart : 10 health (These make up the bulk of the mutation pool)
- Albino: Take .25 damage per turn outside in the sun.
- Stomach Worm: Food items grant 2 less food
- Photosynthesis: Gain .25 food in the sun each turn
- Extra head: Gain an extra hat slot
- Extra arms: Gain an extra weapon slot
- Extra Tentacle: Gain an extra ring slot
Added Some new items: Zomjuicer, Zomjuice, Gummy Vitamins, Backpack, Raygun, Herbal Cigar, Cigarettes, Quick dust, Cleaver, Blink Wand, Radon dew
Backpack is a container that can hold 4 additional items. To access it, double select in your inventory by clicking or using keyboard numbers. Then you can move items in or out by double selecting them or by clicking and dragging.
Opening a container uses up 1 turn.
There’s now “wild” zones in between the old biomes. These are entirely randomly generated sections that have some random vaults sprinkled in. Here’s the current structure:
- Starting Lab
- 2 wild zones
- Suburbs (Reworked, now 3 zones long and ends with a mansion)
- 3 wild zones
- Cornfield
- 3 wild zones
- Swamp OR Highway (These both had some minor changes, swamp has more landmass and highway now has gas stations and diners)
- 3 wild zones
- Mall
- End (Slightly improved!)
These wild zones are sort of a breather in between the more stressful biomes, though they do have some enemies and loot vaults.
The forest biome has been canned for now and is being reworked.
Added Goo Beacon, and Goo
Goo Beacon is a rare enemy that will inflict 1 radiation every time you’re within their vision. They also produce light.
Goo are common enemies that only deal 1 damage, but will also inflict 1 radiation every time they attack.
Player night vision has been buffed:
Soft range increased from 16 -> 24
Hard range increased from 3 -> 4
- Health now regenerates at .25/turn normally, with rings of regen increasing that value by .25 each (From .5 before)
- Strong enemies (Banshee, Lumberling, Goo Beacon, Pit Devil) will now spawn ‘hoarding’ a rare item. They will drop the item after slaying them.
- Enemies that always drop certain items (tainted meat) will now show that in their info panel.
- Many enemies have been slightly nerfed.
- Most food items grant slightly more food.
- Tainted meat now reduces health by 3 instead of 5
- Magnet ring now only has a %5 chance to generate a bullet, down from %10
- Seeing an enemy that has a a ‘dangerous’ ability will play a unique sound effect
- There’s now some lighting effects in game, mostly from guns. These can be turned off in the options menu.
- Can now use items using the number keys 1-9. Double selecting will attempt to use the item.
- To use evokables press the number once. The game will auto target the closest enemy, use directional keys to move the target manually. Press enter to fire the evokable.
- Camera can now pan all the way into full top-down view by holding W, as opposed to almost full top-down.
- Shift + R will let you remove worn items.
- Shift + D will let you drop items.
- Shift + X will let you examine your surroundings using keyboard controls.
- ‘@’ will let you view your statuses/mutations using keyboard controls.
- Fixed a bug where pressing the return button on death wouldn’t take you back to the main menu, and instead would just wipe all of your save data.
- The world seed is displayed in the pause menu.
- There’s now a toggle to switch off smooth cam.
- There’s now a toggle to switch the camera from orthographic to perspective.
- The game now autosaves.
