Update #3




  • Hunger rate has been reduced. Food will now go down at a rate of .25 per turn, instead of .5. Most food items give lower food to compensate. Game begins with 50 food instead of 99 now.
  • New Firefighter class, starts with axe, flaregun
  • Added Graveyard biome, contains new enemies: Wendigo, Seraph, and Blob. The graveyard has a %50 chance of generating instead of the cornfield.
  • Added Forest Biome, contains new enemies Moose and daddy long legs. Will sometimes spawn in place of the highway and swamp biomes.
  • Suburb biome has had some visual and generation changes designed to make it less ugly and fit better with the post apocalyptic setting. It’s also been increased in length to 4 zones long. I’m thinking of increasing the length of other biomes too, the game feels a little bit too short sometimes. However I wouldn’t increase the length without also increasing the diversity within the biome, I’d like to add more unique vaults and possibly enemies so that it doesn’t feel repetitive.
  • New items added to the main pool of loot: Dimension shredder, Peppermint Wand, Bone wand, Dream Bubbler, Lava Bubbler, Gasmask, Jetpack, Spring Boots
  • New mushrooms spawn in the forest and graveyard biomes: Health shroom, Portabella, Blink Shroom, Soul Shroom, Shell Shroom, Nightcap
  • Added lollipop

  • All enemies will now sometimes spawn asleep.
  • Giant spiders now have a web snare ability, it can be used at range and inflicts the snare status, removing the ability to move until struggling free.
  • Reworked flamethrower targeting. Can now be aimed at any tile, rather than just 8 directions. 
  • Lowered number of enemies spawned in the main halls of the mall from 18 to 13.
  • Lowered wasp and pumpking vision range from 6 to 5
  • Cigarettes will now prevent health loss from starvation
  • Enemy units will now animate simultaneously. This will prevent the game slowing down when animating multiple visible units.
  • Reworked the way enemy vision is processed, should now run faster, especially when there are many units and for units with larger vision ranges. All enemy vision is done using 2d pseudo-raycasts, so the vision radius now looks similar to the player’s hard reveal radius. This did have the effect of changing the actual range of most enemies, so some adjustments might be needed.


Fixes:

  • Enemies should now never visually clip through 3d structures like walls (at least in Orthographic camera)
  • Fixed a bug where loading the game would double equipped item stats
  • Fixed a bug where refreshing a status effect or increasing its duration would also double its effects
  • Fixed a bug where dropping items would permanently set charges for that item to whatever the charges were for the dropped item. 
  • Fixed a bug where deloaded tiles were not clearing references to neighboring tiles. This could result in a bug where enemies would try to move into these uncleared references when the tiles were reloaded for another chunk, resulting in a soft-lock.
  • Fixed a bug where enemies could spawn out of bounds in the mall area.
  • Updated some sprites
  • UI for movement / selecting tiles is now smoother
  • Empty tiles should now perfectly match the background
  • Vertical camera rotation now shifts in 15 degree increments when pressing the ‘W’ and ‘S’ keys.
  • Enemy units now have healthbars, instead of hearts
  • Added UI bars for health and food
  • Status effect icons such as sleeping, will now be displayed on top of the enemies healthbar, instead of to the side of.  
  • Activating a targeted effect, such as firing a ranged weapon, and also selecting a discovery option, will now prevent additional movements when using the mouse-hold option, until the mouse button is released
  • Can now hold down movement keys to move multiple times (If the mouse hold option is toggled)
  • Rain animation sprites will no longer appear on empty tiles
  • Got rid of the 3d walls of the lab, to make everything easier to see
